14th August: Pakistan's Independence Day

INDEPENDENCE DAY means a day when we got freedom from not only our brute rulers but also from our humiliation and violation of our rights. In other words, we got our identity and the right to pursue our social values.
Each country has its on rituals and customs to follow. Some nations celebrate their Independence Day as a Day of Prayers, some as a Day of Gladness, and so on. However, in our country, Pakistan, we take it as a day full of celebrations, joy and zeal.
We celebrate 14th August as our Independence Day where we prefer to wear our dresses in green and white colors. Mostly, guys like to wear green qameez or shirt along with white shalwar or trouser accordingly, whereas girls go for white shalwar qameez and green dupattas. Young children wear colorful dresses and get their faces and foreheads tattooed.
It is very common in cities and villages of Pakistan that after Fajar prayer, we pray for the solidarity and prosperity of the country. Our youngsters and children march towards Wahgah Border or some nearby stadium to join the flag raising ceremonies. Especially, on Wahgah Border, the ceremony is led by an army officer, where rest of the public becomes still and silent in the respect of National Anthem that is an integral part of the event. Afterwards, people sit on the stairs of Wahgah Border to watch the military parade. Around 11:00 am, the ceremony ends and public leaves the place saluting their national flag. Now, it’s time for them to celebrate and rejoice their Independence Day.
